EARBY Fire Station is on the look out for new retained firefighters who live or work within five minutes of the station.

Firefighters must be 18 years of age when they join, but 17 year olds can still register their interest.

All retained firefighters must be able to respond and arrive at the fire station on Jagoe Road within five minutes, have permission from their current employer and maintain a reasonable standard of fitness.

Anyone who would like to know more about the retained duty system, the process for applying for a position, the pay and benefits and the training required, can attend an open evening at the station on Monday at 7pm.

During the event, visitors will be able to look at the equipment the station uses and speak to current firefighters about their experiences and their involvement in emergency incidents throughout Lancashire.
