SKIPTON: Skipton Players will perform the psychological drama Iron by Rona Munro until Saturday at Skipton Little Theatre, on Clifford Street.

Rona Munro’s production of Iron is a set in a women’s prison and tells the story of a mother and daughter who try to break through the barriers of time, memory and punishment which separate them.

The play contains strong language and is unsuitable for children.

Doors open at 7pm and the play begins at 7.30pm.

Skipton Town Hall will host a tea dance featuring a Blackpool Tower organist at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

John has been one of the team of resident organists at the famous Tower Ballroom since 1987.

Anyone is welcome to dance or just to sit and enjoy the music.

The Skipton group Just Sing, along with associated groups Singing for Fun and Singing and Dancing, will hold an Easter Ceilidh tomorrow at St Andrew's Church Hall in Skipton.

The ceilidh will run from 6pm to 8.30pm and the well-known ceilidh band Millstone will play the music.

As well as dancing, there will also be plenty of singing for those who enjoy it.

Tickets are £2 for members of any of these groups and £4 for guests. Everybody is welcome.

Skipton Film Club will screen the film I, Daniel Blake at 5.15pm on Sunday, May 7, in the Plaza Cinema, on Sackville Street.

A short film by local filmmakers will start the evening.

Skipton Folk Unplugged will host Fil Campbell and Tom McFarland, who will perform a mix of traditional and contemporary Irish music starting at 8.30pm on Monday at the Narrow Boat, on Victoria Street.

SETTLE: Poetry and music combine to open this year’s Settle Sessions tomorrow at The Folly in Settle. Lawkland poet and playwright Veronica Caperon will present her début collection of poems, Two Left Boots, and Chris and John Bousfield add music to their work.

Collectors’ Rooms: an exhibition of painting, prints and sculpture will run until May 29 at Gavagan Art gallery in Settle.

The spring exhibition will feature a special display of Raku ceramics by Stephen Murfitt.

Stephen’s work can be seen in the end gallery of Gavagan Art while the central display room features artwork from Cornwall, including examples of work by Terry Frost, Alan Davie and Breon O’ Casey.

Examples of work by other artists and ceramicists will also be displayed in the exhibition.

The gallery in Settle Town Hall is open from 11am to 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays.

Moments Captured in Stitch, an exhibition by Cate Holland, will be on display at the Gallery on the Green until May 13.

Local artist and former art teacher Cate takes as her theme for the exhibition the concept of waiting for the release that spring brings after a season of being caged in.

Police Dog Hogan, a high-energy eight-piece band combining fiddle, banjo, trumpet, mandolin, drums and guitars, will perform their fusion of country, pop, folk, and rocking urban bluegrass music in Settle Victoria Hall tonight.

The Friends of Settle Swimming Pool will present a performance by the Swing City Big Band in Settle Victoria Hall on Saturday.

The band, who will feature vocalist Josh Hindle, will perform a night of Big Band classics, as well as famous hits by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Robbie Williams and Michael Buble.

Doors open at 6.45pm and the concert will begin at 7.30pm. All tickets cost £10.

BARNOLDSWICK: The Gathering MK II, featuring the all star line-up of Simon Hough (Big Country), Ken Nicol (Steeleye Span), Matt Pegg (Procol Harum) and Paul Burgess (10cc), will perform a free concert tonight, at the Barnoldswick Music and Arts Centre, 18-22 Rainhall Road. From the Jam, featuring Bruce Foxton and Russell Hastings, will perform in the Barnoldswick Music and Arts Centre on Sunday, April 30.

Madison Violet, an award winning, multi-instrumentalist duo from Toronto, Canada, will perform at 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 2, in the Barnoldswick Music and Arts Centre.

Wreckless Eric, an English rock/new wave singer-songwriter, will perform at 7pm on Thursday, May 4, in the Barnoldswick Music and Arts Centre.

GIGGLESWICK: Settle Stories and 2Magpies will present the cycling story Ventoux at 7.30pm tomorrow in the Richard Whiteley Theatre.

Ventoux is the most fearsome mountain encountered on the Tour de France, but it is also the story of Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani – whose drug-fuelled race there in 2000 was the most dramatic the cycling world had ever seen.

Ventoux uses breathtaking video and a pair of road bikes to chart the parallel lives of these champions who overcame great adversity in tandem.
