AFFORDABLE homes in rural communities was the subject of conversation when Skipton MP Julian Smith visited Yorkshire Housing's new development in Grassington.

Mr Smith met up with Mervyn Jones, chief executive of Yorkshire Housing, on a tour of the new homes at Aynham Close - built on the site of former residential accommodation - and chatted to one of the residents.

They discussed proposals put forward in the Government housing white paper and measures being taken to provide affordable housing and starter homes.

"I valued having the opportunity to speak with Mervyn about the provision of affordable housing in our area, particularly as this is something that is vital to maintaining communities in rural areas like ours," said Mr Smith. "It was great to meet Steve and to hear about how government supported-schemes such as this one are helping young, local people to work and live in the national park."
