AMATEUR artists from Silsden are being invited to create a permanent momento of the Tour de Yorkshire's s arrival in the town.

The Friends of Silsden Town Hall are running a watercolour art workshop in the building on April 22.

The 9.30am to 2.30pm event, supported by a Bradford Council community arts grant, will take cycling and its theme. Watercolour paintings created during the workshop will later be displayed at Silsden Town Hall.

The Tour de Yorkshire, which involves cyclists from around the world, which passes through Silsden on April 30.

The workshop is aimed at amateur painters with previous experience, and will be led by local professional artist Shirley Schofield.

Images from prints and paintings by Yorkshire artists, inspired by previous Tour de Yorkshire races, will be on display during the workshop to give inspiration to the painters.

The paintings will also be shown daily on the Big Screen in Centenary Square during the Tour as part of a joint initiative by the Not Just Hockney project to promote local art, managed by Silsden resident, Colin Neville, and Bradford UNESCO City of Film.

Mr Neville said: “Thirteen Yorkshire artists have contributed 50 of their art images of cycling and cyclists.”

Watercolour paints and paper will be provided at the Silsden workshop, but participants are asked to take their own brushes and painting boards or easels, if possible.

The cost is £5 and prior booking is essential. Tickets are available from Twiggs Newsagents in Silsden.
