SKIPTON Building Society members who attended the annual meeting in the brand new atrium at the headquarters in Skipton, also found themselves privileged to hear live classical music.

It was provided by Skipton Camerata, the orchestra which has been sponsored by SBS for more than a decade and led by conductor and orchestra creator, Ben Crick.

It was the 164th annual meeting and was attended by about 55 people, the same number who arrived for last year's event.

Of the 69,810 members who voted almost 99 percent were in favour of the annual report and accounts and over 89 percent backed the directors’ remuneration report.

Skipton Group Chief Executive, David Cutter, said he was pleased to see so many people having their say about the society.

The AGM also marked the retirement of Chairman, Mike Ellis, who had provided outstanding leadership and overseen a significant improvement in the Society’s performance, said Mr Cutter, who also welcomed the new Chairman, Robert East and new non-executive Director, Richard Coates,

" This year our event is held in our new atrium, a large new multipurpose space that not only cements our commitment to the market town but will also significantly reduce the amount we pay for external meeting spaces and the hiring of specialist equipment.

“As a mutual business, owned by our members, our AGM is the highlight of each year. And once again, we are pleased to see such overwhelming support for all of the resolutions tabled,” he said.
