THE planned conversion of a stable block in Eastby to a home has been given the go ahead.

Applicant Ann McIntosh told Craven District Council's Planning Committee that neither she or her husband had any interest in horses and that the plan was to turn it into a four bedroom home.

She denied there would be an increase in traffic from its previous use because of the number of people and associated visitors who entered the site as a stable block.

Embsay with Eastby Parish Council objected to the conversion of the five stables, feed and tack rooms on Kirk Lane because of the access and because of fears of it setting a precedent. The council also denied it was no longer in use.

Ward councillor Brian Shuttleworth told the meeting there had been a considerable amount of concern over the proposals.

He said there was poor visibility on Kirk Lane and that the road was used by a large number of vehicles and horse riders and also heavy traffic avoiding the archway at Bolton Abbey.
