CHILDREN at Carleton Endowed Primary School learnt about the importance of recycling when an officer from Craven District Council visited.
Wayne Gray, the council’s Environmental Health officer, gave a talk to the pupils about recycling, along with other environmental issues such as littering and dog fouling.
The children were challenged to guess how long it would take for different items of rubbish to rot down in a landfill site.
Mr Gray said: “I spoke to the children about what kind of items can be recycled, and why we recycle. Everybody was shocked by how long it would take rubbish to rot down – including the teachers. The session went really well and it’s something we would like to do more of in schools.”
