WINNERS at next month's popular Skipton Car Show will go home with unique trophies designed by teachers at Skipton Girls High School.

Following on from last year, when the trophies were designed and made by Craven College students, this year's gongs have been designed by staff at the High School.

Organiser of the event, on Sunday, June 4, Jason Smith, said he thought the school, as an engineering academy, would be good to get involved in the design project.

The trophies are made from two different acrylics, illuminated by coloured LED’s using power through a USB lead.

And they were designed by engineering teacher, Darren Green, with help from the engineering department's 'technical dante'.

Mr Green said many hours had gone into the design and development of the trophies.

"We are really pleased with the how they came out and it is great to be involved in an another local event," he said.

Mr Smith gave the school a few ideas, but left it up to staff to make whatever they wanted. “Apart from organising this show I do spend many weekends through the year attending other shows and I have never seen anything like these, they are amazing, and cannot thank them enough," he said.

The school will be at next month's event to promote its Go 20 campaign, which aims to reduce the speed limit on Gargrave Road, where the school and several others, are based.

The school believes with about 3,000 children and young people attending schools and a college along the road, safety and driver awareness is of the utmost importance.

The third annual Skipton Car Show on June 4 will take place on the closed High Street and will feature more than a hundred classic, vintage and interesting cars, wagons and motorbikes.

It will once again be hosted by Alex Riley from BBC's The One Show and this year will raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
