POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an alleged assault on Skipton High Street on Monday.

At around 4.40pm, a shop keeper was assaulted outside Just Jeans in what currently appears to have been an unprovoked attack, say police.

The shop windows were also smashed during the incident.

A 37 year old man was arrested the same day on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and criminal damage, and released still under investigation.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. In particular, we are appealing for any witnesses to come forwards with any information to may help our enquiries."
