PLANS have been submitted to convert a former Barnoldswick school into 11 apartments.

Skipton Properties Ltd is seeking permission to convert the former Barnoldswick C of E Primary School building, on York Street,

In the design and access statement submitted with the plans, the proposal would involve the conversion of the building across three levels into a mixture of 11 one and two bedroom apartment and two bedroom duplexes with garages and parking spaces.

The T-shaped school building has an area of approximately 875 square metres and the building dates back to 1883.

Existing access to the site would be from York Street and Wellington Street.

In the plans, the developers have stated converting the building to "residential apartments will add much needed housing stock and bring and derelict building back to beneficial use".

In a planning statement prepared by agent Jay Everett, from Addison Planning Consultants Ltd, Leeds, said: "The proposal has been developed because the former school has relocated to new modern premises in Barnoldswick.

"The premises have been vacant for some time and are no longer required, or suited to, occupation as a school.

"The conversion of the premises to residential apartments will give the premises a new lease of life, and meet a housing need in a highly sustainable location."
