A GOVERNMENT planning inspector will decide on whether a security shutter can stay put at a shop in Skipton High Street.

Craven District Council refused retrospective planning permission for the shutter at electronics shop, Harry Garlick in December on grounds that, when lowered, it had a damaging impact on the street scene.

But the business has appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, pointing out it needed the blind for security reasons, and that there were other shops in the area with similar blinds.

The roller shutter replaces the former mesh shutter system, which was in three sections and required lifting and putting together each time.

The appeal will be decided following written representations.
