A CHARITY based in the Yorkshire Dales is giving out up to £100,000 to mark its 20th anniversary.

The Clapham based Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) began delivering a range of charitable projects to support the landscape, environment, communities and economy of the Yorkshire Dales in 1997.

And this year, it will be giving 20 awards to recognise the important contribution of some of the groups, organisations and individuals whose work helps to sustain and celebrate the unique fabric of the area.

There are five award categories, all nominations must be received by June 9, and winners will be notified at the end of October.

David Sharrod, YDMT chief executive, said: “Over the last 20 years YDMT has helped others to achieve a fantastic amount in this special corner of the world. What better way to celebrate our 20th Anniversary than by recognising this excellent work and supporting more beneficial projects in the future through 20 cash awards."

Mr Sharrod said the charity would like as much input as possible to help it celebrate some of the exceptional people and groups who went above and beyond for the Yorkshire Dales.

There are five award categories designed to recognise those whose dedication, innovation, industry and community spirit is making an important difference in this special place:.

The five award categories cover conservation, heritage and environment; access and understanding, and rural enterprise and employment. There are also categories for sustainable communities, and for a YDMT champion.

Trustees have set aside up to £100,000 to be given through 20 awards which will bring further benefits to the region, in line with YDMT’s charitable aims.

Dependent upon the quality of nominations, the charity will aim to select at least one Platinum, Gold and Silver award winner in each category.

The awards are open to any group, business, individual or organisation living, working or having an interest in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding area. Self-nomination is allowed for all categories except the YDMT champion.
