ORGANISERS of this year's Skipton Gala are calling on the weather gods to bring them sunshine for this year's event, on Saturday, June 10.

But they also say that galas in following years could be in danger - rain or shine -unless more volunteers come forward to offer help.

This year's gala procession will start at 1pm at Westmoreland Street before going along Keighley Road, High Street, Water Street and Gargrave Road to the gala field at Aireville Park, where there is free entry.

They will be led by the 2017 Rosebud Queen, 10-year-old Christ Church School pupil Rosie Marren, with her attendants Bethany Brewster and Madison Considine.

Chairman of the organising committee Geoff Dunn said: "There is still time for groups to enter the procession and we would love to see them in the parade. It promises to be a fantastic day.

"The committee has been working extra hard to to put the day together because of the shortage of volunteers to help. We would love for more people to to get involved, bringing fresh ideas to keep the gala entertaining families for years to come."
