FUNERAL services for a well-known Barnoldswick guitarist will be held tomorrow.

Allan Parkinson, 68, died while performing on stage at a music festival in Barnoldswick on Sunday, June 3.

He was playing with rock band Dark Horse at the Bands on the Square event when he collapsed.

Allan was born in Barnoldswick in October 1949 to Doreen and Robert Parkinson.

He, his brother Bob and his dad all worked at Rolls-Royce in Barnoldswick.

Allan started playing guitar at 16 and he performed in many local bands.

He formed the popular blues rock band Slack Alice in the early 1970s with Malcolm Crossley, Chris Day and Cliff Stocker.

Allan also enjoyed success with local bands DO-IT and Dark Horse.

He also taught guitar to a number of budding local musicians.

James Parkinson, his son and fellow band member, said: "He died playing on stage in his home town, doing what he did best, and we take a great deal of comfort from this."

Allan is survived by his wife Jillian, three sons, Andrew, James and Ben, and two grandchildren, Leo and Mai.

The funeral service is at Skipton crematorium at 3pm tomorrow, followed by a celebration of his life at 4.30pm at Rolls-Royce Leisure Club, Barnoldswick.
