ORGANISERS of Voices of Craven have announced that Arts Council England has awarded them a grant of £10,000 towards the costs of this year’s festival.

Nick Bannister, chairman of Voices of Craven, said: “This is terrific news as it means that we are able to stage some extraordinary events with fantastic international artists in local venues while keeping ticket prices affordable.”

Following a sell-out opening concert at The Coniston Hotel, the festival continues on Saturday at St Alkelda’s Church in Giggleswick.

International opera star Sarah Fox is returning to her roots and bringing with her four celebrated artists who are regular performers at The Royal Opera House and English National Opera.

Operatic bass Graeme Danby will be joined by his wife, acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Valerie Reid, and tenor Austin Gunn.

Together with Sarah and award-winning pianist Lydia Newlands they will present a programme of opera classics, songs from the shows and well-loved folk songs.

Mr Danby said: “We’re really excited about coming to the Dales and seeing where Sarah is from. We’ve got a great show lined up with something for everyone and our main aim is to make sure that everyone has a brilliant time.”

Tickets for Sarah Fox and Friends can be purchased from giggleswick.org.uk/rwt or by calling 01729 893180.
