WIDESPREAD parking changes will see overnight stops for mobile homes and lorries as well as more "pop and shop" facilities in Craven.

Biggest change will be seen at Craven Leisure car park in Aireville Park, Skipton, where the present £8.00 all-day fee with the first three hours free, will be scrapped.

In its place will be a graded system from up top one hour for 50p to over four hours for £4.50.

North Yorkshire County Council's Craven area committee was told that Craven council plans to charge £10 for overnight stays - 6pm to 8am - by heavy goods vehicles in special designated areas in all pay and display car parks except Waller Hill and Bunkers Hill, Skipton, Ashfield, Settle and the community centre Ingleton.

Motorhomes stays will be allowed in three places in Coach Street car park, Skipton and similarly at Greenfoot car park in Settle. Charges will be £5 a night - 6pm to 9am - with a maximum of three consecutive nights.

Thirty minute "Pop and Shop" parking will be introduced on Coach Street, Skipton, designed to encourage shoppers to the business and retail outlets in the area.

A similar "Pop and Shop" - but for 45 minutes - will be set up at the Ingleton Community Centre car park.

Area Highways engineer James Malcolm told members the introduction of Pop and Shop in Coach Street followed requests from businesses after the success of a similar system in Skipton High Street car park.

Councillors expressed doubts about the practicality of introducing overnight stays at Greenfoot in Settle because of the constructed nature of the site

And Councillor Andy Solloway said he would prefer to see charges at Aireville car park dropped at weekends because of the number of events that took place at weekends throughout the year.

The proposals will go before put before North Yorkshire County Council executive members for final approval.
