A DRIVER whose car clipped the kerb as he negotiated a roundabout in front of a parked police car was over the drink-drive limit, heard magistrates.

Officers followed David Hackford along the A65 and stopped him because of his driving, which was also unusually slow, the Skipton court was told.

Hackford appeared confused and following a positive roadside breath test, he was taken to the police station where he was found to have 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35. He was also found to be driving the Ford Focus without insurance.

Hackford, of Clowes Street, Salford, who admitted drink driving, driving without insurance and without an MOT certificate on May 13, told the court he could not explain why he had ended up in Skipton.

He said he had been visiting the area and was looking for a secluded spot to sleep before returning home to Salford.

He admitted to having drunk a few pints during the day and apologised to magistrates.

He was banned from driving for 24 months and fined £120 with costs of £85 and surcharge of £30. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 24 weeks.
