VILLAGERS and visitors will have the chance to 'go global' at this Saturday's Cononley Gala.

This year’s Cononley Gala will feature a lively procession, many stalls and a packed programme of arena events.

The gala theme this year is ‘Cononley Goes Global’ and encouraging as many children and adults as possible to dress up, take part in the procession and join in the fun, with the added bonus of potentially being awarded a prize.

The procession starts from Main Street at 1.30pm, but all those wishing to take part in the fancy dress competition are asked to meet in the arena on the playing field at 1.15pm for judging.

Organisers are delighted to announce that this year there will be a gala queen and king.

Sophie Mansell will be the gala queen and Louis Jones the gala king, with their two attendants Ruby Reynolds and Sam Cauvin. The guests of honour will be Tony and Kath Hamilton.

Organisers are welcoming back donkey rides (all the way from Blackpool), and the event will include the traditional tea room, kiddies tent (organised by the Friends of Cononley School), gala sports day, children's fell race and tug o’ war.

The event will also feature the South Craven Performance Team, Ashlands Dog Show, The May School of Dance, Cononley Morris Dancers and Cononley Singers, who will all perform live in both the arena and bandstand.

In the evening, the marquee will be transformed to host a gala night do with a licensed bar, hog roast supper and live music from Cononley's very own The Thursdays. Tickets are available from Cononley Post Office for at £10 a ticket.
