POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a crash that left two people seriously hurt yesterday on the A65 near Ingleton at about 3.30pm.
The road was closed for more than four hours, and two air ambulances attended the scene along with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, police and land ambulances.
Four people, three women and one man, were injured, two of them seriously - all were taken to hospital for treatment.
Firefighters had to remove the roof from a vehicle to free two people who were trapped.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "We were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision at 1604 on the A65 Settle.
"Crews from Settle and Bentham attended.
"Two people were tapped and fire crews removed the roof and assisted ambulance staff in moving the casualties."
The crash involved a blue Vauxhall Agila and a blue Skoda Superb.
The road re-opened at about 8pm.
