A NEW head boy and prefect team have been appointed at Ermysted's Grammar School, Skipton.

With the current top year off on study leave for their examinations, the baton of power has been handed on to a team made up of year 12 students.

They are Jonny Macha, head boy, and his three deputies, Jack Lister, Charlie Lowrie and Matthew Paul.

All four had to pass a set of challenging tasks and interview.

Out of an original 29 who applied to be a prefect, a teacher and pupil vote got the number down to just 13.

Each was then tasked with presenting a plan on how best to use the new 'informal workroom' in the school's sixth form centre.

They were also asked to complete a task designed to show how they would go about prioritising a set of head boy tasks.

The highest scoring eight from the tasks were then interviewed by a panel of seven, their school records analysed, and social media backgrounds dissected.

Matthew Paul, one of the successful deputies, said: "We were made to think on our feet and the process really gave us a taste of the competitive world of job applications. It was intense experience, but very enjoyable too.”

New head boy, Jonny Macha, said: "I really want to succeed in doing a good job for the school."

The team's first important task will be to help organise the school's year five opening evening, from 6pm to 8pm, on July 4.

The event is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents, wanting to join the school in September next year, to look around the school.
