GOLFERS helped raise a record £26,000 for a charity aimed at helping severely injured service men and women.

The sixth annual On Course charity day at Skipton Golf Club, organised by club member, David Rasche, from Ilkley, saw 18 teams compete against each other.

And part of each team was a former services man or woman, from the On Course Foundation.

Despite it being not the best of days, the event raised a record amount, through entrance fees, donations from businesses and £14,000 from the evening auction.

Wining team was Harrogate based Broker Network with On Course employee Mark Scorah.

The longest drive was achieved by Mike Browne who played the course to scratch in tough conditions.

Mike only took up golf for the first time after joining On Course just more than three years ago.

Organiser, David Rasche has been associated with the charity since it started seven years ago by a friend, John Simpson, who has been in the golf industry all his working life, managing the likes of Sir Nick Faldo, VJ Singh, and Bernhard Langer.

John also plays golf to a high standard, despite having an iron on his leg, due to childhood polio.

Its aim is to help severely injured service men and women, and also those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with the rehabilitation powers of golf.

So far, it has helped more than 600 people to recover from life changing injuries and disorders.

On Course also helps them find training and jobs in the golf industry and other businesses who support the charity.
