PUPILS and teachers at Bradleys Both Primary School have held a special 'Book Day' to celebrate the opening of the school's new-look library.

Children dressed up as their favourite book characters for the day, which included The Boy in a Dress, Mr Wonka, Harry Potter, Where’s Wally and Mary Poppins, following a grand opening at the morning assembly.

The library has been designed with a 'woodland' theme based on the children's ideas of having a special and cosy place to enjoy reading.

The Friends of Bradleys Both Parents Association raised all the cash over the last year to pay for the new shelving, lighting and seating. A special woodland corner has been created with log seating, artificial grass and a tree mural so the children can experience 'reading in the woods.'

Headteacher Barry Rogers said: “We are very lucky to have such a supportive parent community who have raised the funds to enable us to redevelop our old and tired library. The new library is an exciting and stimulating environment to enhance the children’s enjoyment of reading."

The school held a competition to design a sign for the new library and the ribbon was cut at the grand opening by the winner, Alexandra, a Year 6 pupil who was dressed as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland.
