MEMBERS of the local community have risen to the challenge of helping add meaning to the day for residents at a Threshfield care home.
The team of volunteers at Threshfield Court includes over 15 active people who help out in different ways, for example; sharing specific skills in activities such as crafting and knitting, art and poetry reading to driving the mini bus and supporting local clergy who visit residents.
General manager Stacey Nicholson said rewards flow both ways, benefitting the residents’ wellbeing and giving satisfaction and enjoyment to the volunteers.
"It's fantastic that Lorna Kook has managed to involve so many new volunteers," she said. "What they contribute is impossible to quantify. The benefits for residents’ wellbeing is obvious and it helps us to feel more connected to the village as well."
As a special event, Threshfield Court hosted a ‘thank you’ afternoon tea for all of the volunteers.
