YEAR 6 pupils at Giggleswick Junior School enjoyed time out from their usual timetable in the great outdoors on their end of year trip to Ullswater.

The children, who will be starting in senior school next term, found the the Lake District provided the perfect setting for some exciting outdoor learning and fun.

They tried raft and canoe building as well as hiking, gorge walking and orienteering as part of a series of physical and mental challenges designed to build team spirit.

And they also took part in the traditional ‘jog and dip’ – a short run followed by full immersion into the icy waters of the lake!

Fiona Davison, one of the teachers leading the excursion, said: “They really have had a fantastic experience - being with their friends, learning new skills and challenging themselves in a beautiful and inspiring outdoor environment. What a great way to end their time together at the junior school."
