SKIPTON Brass have announced the appointment of Jack Smith as their new conductor.

Jack comes to the band with a wealth of experience as a professional musician and conductor and has been leading a busy summer programme of events.

In his first two weeks, the band made huge improvements and after a period of uncertainty, the band is moving forward with Jack’s help and guidance.

One of the brass band's first outings together was in the beautiful surroundings of Ripon Cathedral as they took part in the popular Ripon Brass Band Contest.

The band also played at Malham Safari, Sheep Day in Skipton, and will play at Littondale Fete and Burnsall Sports in August.

The band are grateful to the support they receive from the Skipton Business Improvement District and as part of this support, the band play Pop up Concerts out and about in Skipton at various times throughout the year.

The band also has a training programme called Gateway Brass and in May the players came together as a group for the first time since September.

The band rehearses every Monday evening at Skipton Academy and is always looking for additional players to come and support the band and for those wanting to learn there is the Gateway Brass group also on a Monday from 6pm.
