A WEST Craven man was among a group of soldiers from the British Army’s explosives disposal unit who completed the gruelling Tour de Troops 15-day cycling challenge covering 1,500 miles to raise money for the Felix Fund.

Ssgt Daniel King, who is based at Catterick Garrison and a member of the 11 EOD Regiment RLC, described the challenge as one of the most arduous he has taken part in.

Daniel said he had to dig deep on a daily basis to tackle the route from Edinburgh to Germany, but found it to be extremely rewarding and emotional at times.

Whilst on the challenge, he crossed paths with the parents of a colleague and friend whose life was taken whilst on tour with Daniel in Afghanistan.

The meeting was unplanned and was a great reminder to Daniel and the team as to why they were taking on the challenge and where the money raised would go.

The team completed the challenge on schedule and raised in excess of £3,500.
