THOUSANDS of visitors got into the 1940s spirit and enjoyed brilliant sunshine in Ingleton over the weekend.

Many dressed the part of wartime civilians, soldiers and airmen as nostalgia swept the village for its 12th 1940s gala

Military re-enactors, military vehicles, trade stalls and a variety of musical acts evoked the era. And for the first time the event featured a funfair.

Chairman of the organising committee, Tim Goundry, said: "Again it was a fantastic weekend with everyone getting into the spirit of things, which made it hugely enjoyable for everyone.

"After an overcast early part of the day on Saturday the sunshine arrived at about 11 o'clock and the atmosphere was quite superb from then on.

"The Silver Stars Parachute Display Team was watched by at least double the number of people there were last year.

"We brought in a funfair to broaden the scope of the event this year and that proved very successful too.

"The weekend continues to go from strength to strength. We'd like to thank everyone at Craven District Council, who have bent over backwards to help us, and the police, who were a very positive presence throughout the event. And, of course, everyone who came to Ingleton to make the weekend such a great success."
