IINGLETON Gala and mountain race takes place on Saturday - and organisers are hoping for fine weather.

Unusually this year, this weekend's event will take place before the schools break up for the summer holidays, so more children than ever are expected to take part in the fancy dress.

There will also be a parade of gaily decorated floats through the village to the gala field, where there will be fun and games for all the family.

Runners from all over the country are expected to take part in the mountain race which will see competitors set off from the gala field to the top of Ingleborough, and back again.

Entry to the fancy dress will be free, with judging taking place at 12 midday in Ingleton Primary School's field, before the parade.

The parade, led by the Cumbria Gaita Band will set off at 12.15pm from Low Demesne and take the traditional route along Burnmoor Crescent and Backgate to the top of the village making its way through the village to the Gala field.

Motorists making their way through the village will be subject to delays while the parade is taking place up to 1pm.

On the gala field itself, this year's queen Millie Boyles-Read will be crowned by outgoing queen, Millie Nixon.

There will be a display by Dan Clarke and the Xtreme Stunt Team, as well as a number of other activities for families.

The grand gala raffle will have prizes including

the top Beamish Weekend trip donated by Bibby’s of Ingleton.
