A COMMUNITY library will be officially launched on Saturday (July 15) by Keighley-born TV weatherman Paul Hudson.

He will be at South Craven Community Library in Cross Hills at 10.30am for the ceremony.

The event will also include the launch of two fundraising initiatives, a Friends scheme and a lottery.

The Main Street site has been run by volunteers since April backed by North Yorkshire County Council, which provides all the books, IT and a support librarian.

There are currently about 30 volunteers, who carry out a range of roles including issuing books, signing-up members, running a home library service, cleaning and organising activities such as children's story sessions.

New volunteers are welcome.

The library, a registered charity, would also like to hear from anyone interested in joining the board of trustees.

Wendy Bond, chairman of the trustees, said: "We are delighted to have a local celebrity like Paul to officially launch our community library.

"It is a marvellous facility and we hope it will serve the community for many years to come."
