A GROUP of pupils from Skipton Academy decided they were going to clear up the plastic in the town's Aireville Park - after being inspired by an 'eco conference' at Skipton Girls' High School.

Two girls who at the event spoke about how they had set had set up a campaign "Kids against Plastic" to raise awareness about the dangers and problems that the material brings.

The Skipton Academy pupils cleared a total of almost 900 plastic items from the park in just 90 minutes and took them to be recycled.

A group of girls from The Skipton Academy decided after attending the Eco Conference at SGHS that they wanted to help the world.

One of the big issues discussed on the day was plastic waste and recycling. Two girls who talked at the event had set up a campaign "Kids against Plastic" which is raising awareness about the dangers and problems that plastic brings.

After discussing what they could do as a school the four students decided to pick and recycle all the plastic found in Aireville park. In total 887 items were collected in the space of 90 minutes along with a further two bags of general waste.

Going forward we at The Skipton Academy are planning to set up an Eco Committee to achieve the Eco Schools status. We will be working as a school to try and make The Skipton Academy a much better place environmentally.
