TWO TEENAGERS were injured in a car crash yesterday on the A629 Aire Valley Road in Steeton.

The 18-year-old male driver and a 16-year-old female passenger had to be freed by firefighters following the accident near the Silsden roundabout.

Police today issued an appeal for witnesses following the single vehicle collision, which happened at around 2.25am on Sunday.

Police said a silver Vauxhall Corsa was travelling along the A629 Steeton bypass towards Keighley when it left the road and struck a lamppost, close to the Silsden/Steeton roundabout.

A spokesman said: "The 18-year-old male driver of the car suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to hospital, where he remains today, along with a 16-year-old female, who suffered serious head and pelvic injuries.

“The two other occupants of the car were also taken to hospital, but later released after treatment. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the events before it is asked to contact PC 6536 Lajszczuk at the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team on 101, quoting log 248 of 23 July.

Only one car was involved in the crash, but the female occupant was unconscious when crews arrived.

She had regained consciousness by the time she was removed from the vehicle.

Extrication of both casualties was carried out by fire service personnel and casualties transferred to hospital by ambulance.

Fire appliances from Keighley, Silsden and Shipley attended.
