AN encouraging future was painted for members of Grassington Players at the society's recent annual general meeting.

A good showing of members were given an overview of the last year before enjoying a buffet at the AGM held at The Old Hall, Threshfield.

Society president, Joan Whitaker said she was encouraged by the support shown by members while chairman Mary Wilkinson, reviewed the success of the previous year and looked to the future with treasurer Zarina Belk reporting a healthy picture.

The existing committee were re-elected unanimously, and their hard work was commended by all.

Meanwhile, rehearsals are about to start for the autumn production, due to take place in October, for Mr Bennet’s Bride by Emma Wood.

Wood's play is a new one, is a prequel to Pride and Prejudice, and has been chosen to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death.

It will feature a strong cast, and be directed by Paula Vickers and Zarina Belk.

The society is keen to recruit new members, particularly aged between 20 and 40 years old, both to perform and in a directorial role. Anyone interested should contact Mary Wilkinson on 01756 752740 or call informally to rehearsals to meet some of the company on Mondays or Thursdays at 7.30pm at The Devonshire Institute (Town Hall) in Grassington.
