SKIPTON Girls' High School has ended the year on a roll by being named best secondary school in the country for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Headteacher, Jenn Plews, and Kate Walter, director of the school's Northern Lights Teaching School, travelled to London to the Houses of Parliament where they were presented with the Enthuse Award for 'STEM' secondary school of the year.

“This accolade represents the commitment and passion to raising Stem outcomes for all students in all schools across our region and across the North of England," said Ms Walter. " We are extremely proud of our teachers, technicians and associate staff and the day to day impact they have on improving children’s life chances."

The annual celebration awards are presented every year in recognition of the impact that teachers, technicians and support staff have on their pupils, colleagues, schools, colleges and peers, as a result of professional development provided through Stem learning.

The award recognises the collaborative approach that allows the high school to provide professional development to all staff both inside the school and beyond.

It also recognises the significant impact of the school’s partnership with Stem learning supported by the Wellcome Trust, Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the government and other funders of related Stem projects.

The awards ceremony and dinner was hosted by Kevin Hollinrake MP.
