PLANS to provide a £2,000 grant for Earby Fieldfest have been deferred by the West Craven Area Committee.

Councillors heard about this year's Earby Fieldfest, which will take place on Sunday, August 13, during their July meeting.

Fieldfest committee member Chris Tennant said: "This year we're hoping to have more people attend, as we have moved the date from the May bank holiday last year, when it was cold and damp, to August.

"The cost to put on Earby Fieldfest this year will be about £10,800. Most of the artists are attending for free, but we have to provide accommodation for some."

He said organisers are hoping to make a profit this year, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to their chosen charities, MIND and the New Road Community Centre.

Mr Tennant said the Fieldfest has £4,000 of funding in place from major sponsor George Boocock Decorators, of Nelson, and another £1,000 from Earby Town Council.

Although area committee members voted to defer the application, they did approve two grants using funding from the capital improvements programme.

A grant of £1,000 was awarded to St Joseph's Community Centre in Barnoldswick and £500 will go to Salterforth Toilets Group.
