A BRADLEY man has been banned from driving for 18 months after admitting being almost twice the legal drink drive limit.

Joshua Swift, 18, was breathalysed by police after crashing his VW Golf into a wall in Jackson Lane, Bradley, just before midnight on May 19, heard Skipton Magistrates' Court.

A roadside breath test was positive and he was taken to the police station where a blood test later revealed he had 157 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the legal limit is 80.

Swift, of College Road, was a man of previous good character who had been driving for eight months.

The court heard in mitigation he was an apprentice mechanic who would lose his job as a result of losing his licence.

In addition to the ban, Swift was fined £250 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £30. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 18 weeks.
