A PARK in Barnoldswick is one of several in Pendle to celebrate Green Flag success.

Pendle entered eight parks in Tidy Britain’s Green Flag Award scheme, and all eight retained their awards.

The eight parks which have been recognised as being well managed and maintained and with good facilities are Valley Gardens in Barnoldswick, Barrowford Park, Heyhead Park in Brierfield, Alkincoats and Ball Grove Parks in Colne, and Marsden, Victoria and Walverden parks in Nelson.

Pendle’s mayor, Councillor David Whalley and his wife Barbara, mayoress of Pendle, who attended a recent flag raising ceremony at Victoria Park in Nelson, have chosen all Pendle’s Park Friends groups for their charity fundraising this year.

“The awards are a great tribute to our hard-working staff, dedicated Park Friends and volunteers who make a big difference,” said Councillor Whalley. “We are supporting their efforts.”

“Our parks are great but they aren’t perfect and there’s always loads to do,” he added. “If anyone would like to volunteer to help please visit pendle.gov.uk/parks to find out more or get in touch with our parks staff on 01282 661600.”
