THOUSANDS of visitors will be flocking to one of the area's foremost traditional showcases for rural skills and crafts, the Gargrave Agricultural and Horticultural Show, on Saturday.

This year's event is the 113th and is again taking place on the showground in front of Eshton Hall, with a free minibus operating from the village.

Judging of the various horse and cattle classes will start at 8.30am and the show will continue into the evening.

Handicrafts, horticulture and egg classes are scheduled to start at 9.45am, while cattle and sheep judging starts at 10am. Pony show jumping starts at 10.30am, with horse show jumping in the early afternoon, and shire horse judging in the main ring at 11.30am. Children’s mounted fancy dress is also in the main ring, at 11.45am.

Organisers promise plenty of family fun and sports, with five fell races starting from the main ring at noon.

The afternoon will feature a parade of vintage tractors and cars, dog show judging, junior sheep handling, various children's sports and egg-throwing, with the centrepiece the Grand Parade and presentation of cups starting at 3pm. The final event is terrier racing at 5pm.

Admission prices are adults £8, over 60s £5, children aged 12-18 £5, while children up to 12 are free.
