POLICE have hit out at ‘mindless vandals’ and ‘buffoons’ who vandalised cars and sprayed offensive graffiti on a house.

At least ten cars were targeted by vandals in the early-morning attack on a street in Earby.

It is estimated the vandals have caused thousands of pounds of damage.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident which happened in William Street between 12am and 3am on Monday.

Offensive graffiti was also sprayed onto the wall of a house but police have confirmed the occupants are not subject of any investigations.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

PC Nigel Keates said a number of teenagers had been spoken to in relation to the incident.

Among the cars targeted with white spray paint were a green Skoda Citigo and a grey Peugeot 308.

PC Keates said: “About ten vehicles were damaged by some buffoon spraying white matt paint along the side of vehicles.

"One house had graffiti sprayed on the wall. Do you have any information?

“If anyone has tips for removing paint from car bodywork this may help if only a little.

“If only we could use the offender’s face to wipe it off.

“This is just sheer stupidly, mindless vandalism.

“A number of youths in the area who were hot favourites have been spoken to and they are just as angry as some of their uncles, aunts and grandparents have been targeted.

“We will get a name.

“Personally with the wording used I don’t suspect it is youths.

“The target addresses have not been and are not currently the subject of any police investigation.

“If you have any info on who might have done it contact 1443@lancashire.pnn.police.uk.”

Earby ward councillor Mike Goulthorp said: “Anti-social behaviour is an ongoing issue in West Craven at the moment.

"In recent times we have had people going around knocking off wing mirrors.

“We are following it up with the police at every opportunity and have asked for extra patrols in the effected areas.

“It is very annoying and frustrating that there doesn’t seem to be a solution to this at the moment.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 292 of August 14.
