YOUNGSTERS, staff and parents have enjoyed a successful school sports day in Sutton Park.

The Sutton Community Primary School event was staged earlier this month, (July) and involved more than 200 pupils. Attempts to hold the event in previous years were twice thwarted by torrential rain.

Head teacher Fiona Beetles said: "It was third time lucky for sports day this year. We had a lovely day – not too hot and not too cold – in Sutton Park.

"It was great to see so many family and friends supporting the children in a variety of sporting endeavours. We probably had over 100 spectators.

"Excellent sportsmanship was on display and everyone had a great time.

"We struck a balance between team games and traditional races.

"We don't have our own field, which is why we use the park. But it's a beautiful venue and the people in charge of the park were very helpful. They marked out a running track for us."
