ACHIEVEMENTS in A-level results at Skipton Girls High School in the first year of the reformed examinations have been described as "incredible".

It was the best set of results at the school dating back to 2001 said headteacher Jenn Plews. They had revealed a "remarkable" year-on-year increase and had completely bucked the national gender trend.

In all headline attainment measures the school had exceeded with 18 percent of all grades at A*, over 46 percent of all grades A*/A and 94.5 percent A*/C - an increase from 88 percent last year. Once again the overall pass rate for A*-E was 100 percent.

Thirty one students secured A*/A grades in all their A level subjects including exceptional performances from Molly Ingham, Charlotte Barrett and Hannah Eastham. All three students achieved three A* grades in all their subjects.

Rachel Brown secured A* in mathematics and three A grades in engineering, physics and further maths and a place at Imperial College, London, to study design engineering.

Hannah Thom achieved an A* in geography, and three As in English literature, engineering and biology and is heading to Bristol University to study geography.

This year two sets of twins sat their A levels – Juwairya and Sumaiya Rehman achieving two A* grades and four A grades between them and Amani and Manaal Rashid who collectively achieved two As, three B’s and a C grade.

Across all the reformed A level subjects the school was celebrating major success and in particular modern foreign languages, chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics.

Ms Plews said ‘We take a great deal of pride in every one of our students and in this new era of qualifications and an untested system they have all achieved astounding A levels results.

"Over a third of our students are new to our sixth form and join us from local schools – this year’s results indeed show the impact of the great teaching and learning we offer at Skipton Girls’ High School.

"A level results change our student’s lives and I have no doubt that they, as individuals, will go on to change other people’s lives for the better in their future careers – congratulations to a wonderful group of girls’.

Today's results demonstrate that Skipton Girls’ is a great sixth form of choice for students within the local region where young people are supported to realise their talents, grow and develop as individuals and experience the achievement they rightly deserve.
