THE nerve wracking wait for the results at Craven College's Aireville Campus was made more tense - as at all the places awaiting results - by new style examinations in some subjects.

Sociology was the best performing A level and creative writing the best performing AS Level.

For mature students, aged over 19 who had returned to study, the pass rate was 100 percent in nine out of 10 subjects.

Of the 18 A level subject areas art and design, business, computer science, creative writing, English language, English literature, geology, media studies, photography, psychology and sociology all achieved a 100 percent pass rate.

Among students celebrating was Richard Johnson, a mature student aged 24, from Sutton who is on target to achieve his life goal with AS level results in biology A, chemistry B and psychology A.

He said, “After I left school I went into employment but realised in my early twenties that I had life goals which included going to university to study for a degree.

Craven College gave me the opportunity I wanted to do A levels and I have enjoyed the experience of being back in education, having to get my mind going and working toward my goal."

Henry Hibbs, from Skipton, achieved A levels in psychology A, sociology A and creative writing C, and is heading to London to study psychology at Goldsmiths University of London.

He said, “When choosing where to study my A Levels, Craven College stood out a mile with its relaxed feel and warm staff.

"I felt I would be treated like an adult and I was right, you can get a real taste of independence here. I managed to make a large number of friends, not just from my course but others as well."

The next step for Jack Perry, from Embsay, who gained A levels in sociology B, citizenship B and psychology D is to attend York St John’s University to study Criminology.

Jack said, “I’d heard all sorts of good things about Craven College and it certainly lived up to my expectations."

Principal, Robert Bellfield, Principal said: “It is particularly pleasing to see the students achieve the A level and BTEC grades they need for the next stage in their lives whether a university course or apprenticeship."
