STAFF at Skipton Girls' High School have described the 2017 GCSE results as "sensational."

And they have come in the light of significant changes to the curriculum and the uncertainty it brought for all students, parents and schools nationwide, they say.

An "extraordinary" 80 percent of the year 11 cohort achieved five or more A* to A grades and 19 students were rewarded with a clean sweep of nine-seven and A*, A grades across all of their qualifications.

Almost 40 percent of the top grades nine and eight were awarded for English and mathematics and the school increased its overall attainment with the average grade of more than an A for the best eight subjects across the whole school cohort.

Ninety-four of the cohort achieved the English Baccalaureate measure, an increase of nine percent from 2016, while results across all the arts subjects remain exceptional - 50 percent of all grades were achieved at A* in art and design.

In celebrating the achievements of all students, there were a number of exceptional individual performances including Yasmeen Razaq, who joined SGHS in year nine, achieved grade nines for English language, literature and mathematics and straight A*s in all her other subjects.

A thrilled Megan Smith achieved grade nines for both English language and literature, grade eight in mathematics and ten A*s for her other subjects.

Amy Ball, secured grade nines in English language and maths, seven A*s and two A grades.

Maryam Waheed gained grade nines in English literature and maths, grade eight in English language and eight A*s and one A.

Grace Homard achieved grade nines in English literature and language, grade eight in mathematics and seven A* and one A.
