CRAVEN friends inspired to sing by wartime favourites The Andrews Sisters are taking their act further afield for the first time.

Nikki Old, Nikki Chestnutt, and Julia Woodhead, sang together for the first time two years ago at 70th anniversary celebrations of the end of the Second World War in Carleton.

They called themselves The Carleton Sisters, kitted themselves out in 1940s uniforms and since their first outing, have found themselves in much demand - they will now perform at this month's Hebden Bridge Vintage Fair.

The three friends were all teaching travel and tourism in 2015 when they got involved in organising the anniversary celebrations with the Carleton Community Umbrella Committee.

With encouragement from the committee they selected three songs, organised uniforms, got help with microphones and backing music, and started to rehearse – naming themselves after the village where they all live.

Following on from their first performance they have sung at many events in and around the village including the celebrations for the Queen’s 90th Birthday and three times at charity music festival, Claxtonbury.

Nikki Chestnutt said: “We never intended to sing beyond that 1940s weekend in May 2015 and have been taken by surprise by the many invitations they have received over the last three years. We are very excited to put on our outfits once again and sing at The Hebden Bridge vintage weekend.”
