A COUPLE celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the same Craven hotel where they held their reception 50 years ago.

Trevor and Jill Hodgson were married at St Andrew's Church, Gargrave in July, 1967 and held their reception at The Devonshire Fell in Burnsall.

And 50 years on, they celebrated their anniversary with family and friends back at the Fell - where they had also enjoyed a picnic in the grounds for an earlier, significant anniversary.

Trevor, originally from Grassington, and Jill, the daughter of a school teacher and originally from Kelbrook and later, Gargrave, met at Gordale Scar, where they shared salmon sandwiches.

Now both 75 years old, they are former pupils of Ermysted's Grammar School and of Skipton Girls High School.

Jill went on to take Russian and French at Liverpool University before returning to Skipton Girls to teach, while Trevor studied civil engineering at Manchester University before taking up a position at the former West Riding County Council.

After being married, Jill taught at Wakefield Girls High School and the couple lived in Ossett for 21 years. Jill returned to teaching after their two children, Andi and Katharine, started school, and retired in 1999 when the couple moved to West Bretton, near Wakefield. Trevor retired three years later and the couple, who have three grandchildren, spend their time enjoying the parkland - home of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park - where they live.
