WITH a top price of £2,140 and eight animals selling at £1,900 or more, trade was firm from start to finish in Gisburn Auction Marts’ dairy sale.

WA and A Booth, Feizor made the top price for their two weeks calved pedigree heifer giving 29 litres, which went to Dumfriesshire buyers F and M Graham, Gretna, who took all three of the top priced lots.

At £2,080, they took the second prize cow, a second calver from DA Wilcock, Blackrod, Bolton, and paid £2,040 for the second prize pedigree heifer from KE Robinson and Son, Carnforth.

Hothersall, Preston buyer Brian Blezard paid £2,010 for a 31 litre pedigree newly calved heifer from PT and MR Critchley, Wrea Green, while Tosside, Skipton breeders T and C Robinson sold a 14 days calved heifer at £1,980 to Clayton’s Partnership, Nantwich.

Three at £1,900 included the second and third prize newly calved pedigree heifers from J and AH Rogerson, Singleton. One was bought by HH and MG Robinson and Son, Slaidburn, and the other sold to local buyers FA and TCR Wrathall, who also paid the same price for a 31 litre heifer from Messrs Robinson, Carnforth.

The averages were: pedigree newly calved heifers £1,681, cows £1,737; non-pedigree newly calved heifers £1,570, cows £1,793. In-calf heifers £1,228. The auctioneers were Richard Turner and Son.
