ORGANISERS are inviting everyone to the sixth annual Grassington 1940s weekend.

The event kicks off tomorrow with live music and dancing in Grassington Town Hall.

The vintage sounds of The Alkaseltzer Sisters, supported by DJ Shack Shakin Jack, will be heard at the concert which starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8.

On Saturday and Sunday, visitors are encouraged to ride in on a vintage bus and be taken back in time as they land in the heart of the re-enactor camps, where there will be skirmishes and vintage market stalls.

Heading up into the village, people can walk around the cobbled streets and hear the sounds of the 1940s throughout the day as they browse around Grassington’s shops, cafes and public houses.

From 2pm to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday there will be afternoon tea dances led by Maggie and Geoff Forrest in the town hall. Tickets cost £5 and include a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

On Saturday evening, back by popular demand, will be a concert in the town hall by the Echo 42 Big Band, also be supported by DJ Shack Shakin Jack. Tickets cost £17.50, which includes supper.

With Grassington lending itself to the 1940's era, the weekend also provides visitors with an opportunity to view some of the best examples of vintage military and civilian vehicles in the north of England.
