THE A59 was blocked at Kex Gill for around three hours after an accident involving a lorry and a fuel spill.
The accident was between Kex Gill Road and Church Hill. The lorry is reported to have crashed into another vehicle.
The road has now reopened, says TC Paul Cording of North Yorkshire Police.
There are no reported injuries, but motorists were left facing substantial delays.
The problem affected traffic travelling between Blubberhouses and Bolton Abbey, and drivers were advised to avoid the area as any diversion will add substantial time to journeys.
TC Cording tweeted at around 9.45 to say: "The #A59 at #Kexgill between #Skipton & #Harrogate has reopened following earlier RTC, thank you for your patience."
