PERIOD buses are to take to the road once again to re-live their days ferrying folk around Craven.

For one day only - Saturday, October 7 - vintage Pennine Motors buses are to grace their old routes from Skipton bus station to Embsay, Carleton and round the Horse Close circular, using the same timetables.

In addition, extra Pennine buses will work from Skipton to Settle and Malham, supplementing the existing service operated by Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire.

The big difference from when Pennine folded in 2014 is that no fares will be taken on the hourly service and

following the popularity of last year's special trips to Settle and Malham more than one bus will be working.

The sights, sounds and smells of yesteryear will continue the following day Sunday, October 8, when buses and coaches will go on display in Skipton Coach Street car park. There will be free bus rides from Skipton bus station.

Event organiser, Tim Moody, who owns a Leyland National bus built in 1979 said: "Pennine Motors was a well-known family run bus company based in Skipton. It’s distinctive orange buses were seen on the roads of Skipton, the surrounding villages and southern Dales for 89 years.

"Sadly in 2014 Pennine ceased trading and different bus companies and North Yorkshire County Council stepped in the provide alternative bus services but even to this day no buses run to villages such as Embsay and Carleton or on the Skipton Horse Close Circular on Saturdays."

A combined programme for both days will be available on the day giving some historical information about the Pennine services, details about the vehicles being used, as well as full details and times of the buses ondisplay and offering rides on the Sunday.
