CARING pupils at Steeton Primary School are raising money for a children's hospice.

Youngsters have so far coined-in over £300 for Martin House, with a range of activities.

Their effort was initiated by pupil Laiba Ul Haq, whose sister Zoya – and her family – is being supported by the Boston Spa hospice.

Laiba approached her teacher, Jade Wilson, about raising funds.

And the idea was adopted by class 3/4J, which began organising events.

The children decorated cakes for a bake sale, there was a 'name the teddy' competition and the school council staged a chocolate tombola.

"It's amazing how one idea and one small thought has blossomed into such a huge success," said Miss Wilson.

"I am incredibly proud of Laiba and her never-ending enthusiasm for helping Martin House and her love for her sister.

"And there has been so much kindness and generosity from all the school parents and children involved.

"We hope the funds raised will go a small way to showing our gratitude for the amazing work Martin House does."

Martin House – which this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary – relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising to provide care and support to over 420 young people, and 150 bereaved families, across West, North and East Yorkshire.
