THE preferred option on how to protect Coniston Cold's narrow bridge on the busy A65 from further catastrophic damage, is not expected until the end of the year.
A number of solutions have been considered with the preferred one expecting to cost in the region of £9 million, councillors on the Craven area committee were told.
North Yorkshire County Council highways officer James Malcolm said he was still not in a position yet to reveal exactly the details of the various schemes.
"The feasibility of the of the options are being considered. At this point no decision has been made," he told the meeting in Settle.
The historic listed bridge - build by 18th century Yorkshire bridge-master John Carr - was damaged in August 2016 when a lorry demolished the parapet at a pinch point in the narrow structure.
A temporary repair has been carried out and two way traffic has been back in operation for some months.
